The USS Abraham Lincoln and the USS John C. Stennis, two of the ten nuclear-powered Nimitz-class aircraft supercarriers that the Navy has at sea showed up in the Persian Gulf as tensions with Iran continue to rise. In an effort to flex some serious muscle, the Iranians must be wondering if the US/Israelis are ready to get busy militarily. The moment the Iranians erroneously threatened to shutdown the Straits of Hormuz, the US launched the next phase of “Operation Pick A Fight” In a direct challenge to Iran’s power and national pride, the US and the West are looking to keeping “punking” the Persian nation until they pop off.
At the same time, Newsday is reporting Britain could send extra military assets to the Strait of Hormuz to deter any attempt by Iran to block Persian Gulf oil tanker traffic. Tehran responded by accusing the European Union of trying to create tension with a ban on the purchase of its oil. So far, the West has been successful at doing just that! Though assassinations, cyber warfare and blatant act of sabotage, is appears the US and the Israelis are going for the in your face approach now.
However, with the abysmal reputation the US and Western allies have for intelligence manipulation, it is extremely concerning to witness another build up for war when so little actual evidence has been released to support the allegations of Iran’s pursuit of a nuclear weapon. Based on similar assertions made against Iraq, hundreds of thousands of non-combatants were killed, maimed and left homeless. An entire nation was reduced to rubble, with sectarian violence left raging in the streets. After finally admitting there were no WMD’s, the US scurried out of Iraq in the middle of the night, simply hoping to ignore the death, destruction and abject misery we left in its wake.
Hence, we were wondering if Iran could have a legal case against the United States for causing severe damage to their economy by the “unjustified” sanctions imposed upon them without hard proof they’ve engaged in any wrong doing. From where we stand, the Iran could claim significant damages for lost revenue and other related damages to their economy. Reportedly, Iranians are losing as much as $50 million a day due to the “crippling sanction” the West so gleefully tout . Simply logic demands answers as to how Western nations could cause that degree of harm to another nation state, simply on their say so. Considering the record the United States has for acting on erroneous intelligence much to the detriment of others, the bar for making and such proving accusations should be raised considerably higher.
For other nations to blindly comply with US demands to support said sanctions without clear and verifiably undeniable evidence of Iran’s development of weapons grade plutonium for the sole purpose of creating a nuclear bomb, they too could be held liable for damages. Well one would logically think that would be the case.
