An Open Letter To the President
Congratulations Mr. President and the best to your beautiful wife and family. You are off to a splendid start and we wish you a successful first and second term as the nation’s Commander in
They say all good things must come to an end, and we agree 100%. But, they also say when one story ends, another begins. So fear not, as we’ll be around to offer opinions, suggestions and of course criticism when ever we see the need.
Until Monday 02.02.09 we’ll take a breather from all this madness and return with a new mission. What that mission is at this point is still not clear, but we shall return, fresh eager and willing to do what ever it takes to help this country rise from the ashes of the last eight years of incompetent, immoral, corrupt and yes; criminal governance.
In our parting, we only wish you could have had a minute to savory the victory and enjoy the spoils of your hard fought war on the campaign trail to the White House.
You are truly a gentlemen and scholar of the highest order and we salute you.

With Israel’s IDF unleashing cluster and white phosphorus bombs on the Palestinians in Gaza, targeting anything that moves for complete annihilation, one has to wonder why Hamas won’t stop fighting with their ineffective weapons. At this point, they are facing the rabid force of Israel’s military power that will not be detruded by mere human misery.
Even with fourteen of the fifteen members of the UN Security Council voting for an immediate ceasefire, (the US abstained) the Israelis have responded by penetrating deeper and deeper into Gaza, with ever increasing lethality. On this day, we awoke to news reports of the UN’s relief agency, Unrwa being shelled by the Israelis. Palestinian men, women and children are fleeing one insecure shelter for another just to keep one step ahead of death and or dismemberment from a tank shell or a missile launched from an f-18.
With little more than buckets of their own blood to throw back left, the Palestinians refuse to rollover. Why do they not think of their women and children? Why would they continue to antagonize an enemy who knows no restraint or proportionality? Why would they persist in challenging a foe that has the full blessings, financial support and access to the weapons supply of the most powerful military threat in the world?
On the surface, it appears ludicrous and delusional to fight to the last drop of blood of every child in Gaza, while resisting an enemy that would gladly spill it just to make a point of its prowess. With ceasefire options being considered and proposed daily, thus far the Palestinians in Gaza are holding firm. Perhaps we are witnessing the massacre of a people in real time, almost right before our eyes because the Palestinians have reached a point of having nothing left to lose.
We have asked our selves could we endure the sight of our daughter’s bodies being sheared in half or our sons doused head to toe in white phosphorus causing his flesh to disintegrate to the bone. How Hamas can continue to see its families turned into charred flank steaks at the hands of an enemy determined to settle for nothing less than total submission is beyond our comprehension. The only explanation we can fathom is their lame hope that the world will care enough to help ease their blood shed.
But the unfortunate truth is, we live in a world that can tolerate the loss of life and limb in some of the most horrendous, heinous and despicable ways one can possibly imagine. Many around the globe will view the fate of Palestinians as just another lost cause, just another hard luck story, just another news item to be ignored. So the question remains, why do the people in Gaza carry on their battle with this vicious unyielding and inhumane military machine?
Maybe, we answered our own question when we mentioned earlier; the Palestinians simply have nothing left to lose. Maybe if we watched our children growing up playing soccer in rubble strewn streets with deflated soccer balls on hot summer‘s days, we could understand. Maybe if our toddlers had nothing to play with other than a wood carved ak-47’s until a real weapon could be obtained at age twelve to parade around with, we would have some idea of the Palestinian’s pain. Maybe if we had to live without fresh water, food, fuel, electricity, indoor plumbing, adequate medical facilities or schools to attend and being trapped like rats for decades, we could appreciate their dilemma. Maybe if our homes could be bulldozed at the whim of our angry lords in retribution for having the audacity to stand up to our oppressors, we too would rather die than to exist like that any longer.
Because the Palestinians have been successfully defined and forever labeled terrorist, they are deemed less than worthy of any form of sympathy or attention. Because the mass media’s marketing campaign against them has been so successful and thorough, they will never be seen as freedom fighters or a legitimate resistance movement to an unjust master. Hence, on second thought, perhaps if we were in a similar circumstance, we too would fight on. What would you do? Click here for the podcast.
This is an English language film (made in America) adapted from a novel by German author Erich Maria Remarque. The film follows a group of German schoolboys, talked into enlisting at the beginning of World War 1 by their jingoistic teacher. The story is told entirely through the experiences of the young German recruits and highlights the tragedy of war through the eyes of individuals. As the boys witness death and mutilation all around them, any preconceptions about "the enemy" and the "rights and wrongs" of the conflict disappear, leaving them angry and bewildered. This is highlighted in the scene where Paul mortally wounds a French soldier and then weeps bitterly as he fights to save his life while trapped in a shell crater with the body. The film is not about heroism but about drudgery and futility and the gulf between the concept of war and the actuality. This description obtained from IMDb. Click here to download the movie.
