When you cover stories around the world as we do, from time to time you see far more than you really want to. Since the devastating earthquake in Haiti nearly three weeks ago, I have been learning more about this poor Black island nation and have been in the process of confirming some nagging and ugly suspicions that needs to be further explored and perhaps further exposed.
Immediately after the first reports of the Haitian adoption process being expedited so soon after the initial tragedy, my gut told me something was seriously amiss. I almost felt people were being allowed to grab a kid without verification that the kid was actually an orphan. It seemed to me that the country had been turned into an animal shelter whereby a small cute child could be obtained with few questions asked. Like shopping for a family pet, a few US dollars from some rich creep could buy a child for some ungodly purposes from a poor creep.
How anyone could verify the proper paper work and checked and rechecked identities under these most trying of circumstances alluded me. Who the hell was in charge of anything, let alone the welfare of the smallest, the weakest and the most venerable in this dog eat dog situation?
This is the poorest nation in the western hemisphere and poor people are forced to do some really crappy things out of sheer desperation, so I don’t want to go off on an ignorant tirade without understanding to whole picture.
As I began to process the data coming in, I knew I could not move on without getting involved. I knew there was more to understand, more to investigate and more follow through on. You can help by reading this book to help you understand the country, the culture and its predicament.
I had absolutely no idea of the scope and depth of the issue of child slavery that plague this poverty stricken country. However, before I condemn the Haitian leadership for allowing this practice to persist, I must know more. I intend to keep this story alive here at RetroVision Media until those perpetuating these crimes against humanity are called to task for their actions. If you know of anyone that has stories to share concerning this hot issue, please contact us here
