America Should Pick Its Own President For Once

If the country is ready for an African American or a woman to be president, then the country is probably ready to choose its own candidate. With the Republicans continuing to clamor for Fred Thompson to join the 2008 race and Al Gore’s growing group of supporters requesting his presence in the fray, it appears the so called front runners haven’t exactly thrilled the throngs. We have simply been given a heavy dose of commercial programming paid for by the usual special interest groups to create the illusion that the likely voter actually has a choice.
The guys and gals with the most financial backing is our choice and has always been our choice and will always be our choice until America realizes the most democratic way to bring a new face into the White House, a face that America wants and deserves, is to automatically disqualify anyone that wants to be president.

The level of ego, arrogance and ambition is takes for someone to actually stand and say they want to lead the free world should set off alarms for the sanity police. When one considers the vast responsibilities inherent in the job of president of the U.S. it should make one shutter at the thought of carrying the weight of the universe on their shoulders knowing no decision made will ever satisfy all.
The mental and physical toll the presidency has taken on past occupiers of the oval office is well documented and should frighten the shit out of the most stable among us. But still, every four-eight years a group of lying sons a bitches and a bitch line up for a shot at the top gig in the world.

The next president of this nation should be someone that the nation recruited for the job. If we even think somebody wants the job, they should be sedated and locked away for their protection and ours. If that policy was in effect eight years ago, there would be an estimated 650,000 Iraqis still alive and at least 3500 American GI’s still around.

Our next president should be brought into office kicking and screaming. He or she will have been sort after for their experience in foreign affairs, ethics, character, people skills, management style, and ability to handle stress, level of tolerance, respect for diversity and a strong sense of fair play. If we could find people like that, that have proven themselves in their chosen field then we, the people will have what America has needed for quite sometime. America will have the kind of person on the job that can bring the country back to it former prominence and statue the world had come to expect from us. Anything else that can be bought and packaged for a quick sell simply won’t get us where we need to be.

The Eaten Heart: Reviewed And Rejected

The Eaten Heart, supposedly inspired by Giovanni Boccaccio’s 14th century work, The Decameron, was masqueraded as a new play by Hannah Bos and Paul Thureen at the Ontological Theatre in the east village between 2nd and 3rd avenues.

Old “Gio” must be turning over in his grave at the thought of his work inspiring The Eaten Heart, a lackluster dark comedy of sort rehashing the shopworn tale of a wife cheating on her husband with his best friend concept.

Like a ship adrift without a rudder, the discombobulated, incoherent storyline was uninteresting from the opening moments to the unearned bows as three hapless actors tried to keep a sinking production afloat without the skills or experience to do so.

The near empty theater was a testament to the intellect of wise theatergoers, save for my dumb ass, who failed to see the bad writing on the wall while I waited for the show to begin.

With a confusing opening that gave an impression of a story starting in the middle, working it’s way to an incomprehensible beginning and back to the middle again with no rational reason or way to reach a logical ending, I sat impatiently through the duration of the performance hoping the building would catch fire so I and the few other suckers and saps with nothing better to do on a Tuesday evening, to get out gracefully.

Perhaps, there was a high degree of existential symbolism that blocked my simple mind from comprehending a great writer’s tremendous depth of artistic creative impressionistic purpose, but alas, all I came away from the performance with, was one profound question: What the fuck was that?

Normally, I would give you some details on how you can find more information should you want to take a gander for yourself, but I wont this time for your own good. If you want to commit theatergoer suicide, find your own way to self inflicted pain via bad writing acting and senseless direction.

Darfur: A Crisis Too Long Ignored!

President Bush’s light weight sanctions against the Sudanese are welcomed by few and found to be toothless by most as said sanctions announced is to simply press the United Nations Security Council to adopt a new package of international sanctions, including an expanded weapons embargo and the prohibition of military flights over Darfur.
Announcing the new measures at the White House yesterday, President Bush said the Sudanese government was responsible for “genocide” in Darfur, and the world had a responsibility to end it.

But in reality, the president has little influence over the known perpetrators of the mass rape and murder because of limited resources the U.S. has to use as a threat. Since America is thoroughly bogged down in Iraq and Afghanistan, while embroiled in an ongoing war of words with Iran the U.N. seems the only way the Bush administration can make things uncomfortable for President Bashir and his crew.
Since the onset of hostilities four years ago, an estimated 200,000 have been killed and 2.5 million have been displaced with little done to curtail the violence.
The primary business partner the Sudanese would probably listen to is their biggest oil customer, the Chinese, but there seems to be little the U.S. can do to get them to bite the hand that is feeding their ever growing fossil fuel addiction.

Want a way to help? Here are a few links to help educate you on the crisis. Darfur Save Darfur Genocide In Darfur Women For Darfur Stop Hunger In Darfur Support Refugees In Sudan

Net Neutrality Could Be History If You Don’t Fight Back

Net Neutrality is the story of the day as we are joining the battle to keep government and corporate interest from attempting to I-jack the world’s access to the last relatively free frontier of the information highway. Some of your most popular icons of the world’s telecommunication’s industry are actively lobbying law makers to stab you in the back with planned multi tier pricing structures that will price smaller commercial sites out of completion for business.

More information can be found here to help explain this serious threat that can change the way the Net has been delivered and accessed forever. Why the proposed changes? If your guess is profit, give yourself a gold star.

Other news: Estonia alleges they were the targets of a Russian cyber attack for dismantling a statue of a Russian soldier in one of their parks.
According to a New York Times story, “the Russian government has denied any involvement in the attacks, which came close to shutting down the country’s digital infrastructure, clogging the Web sites of the president, the prime minister, Parliament and other government agencies, staggering Estonia’s biggest bank and overwhelming the sites of several daily newspapers.”
This denial comes in spite of the Estonians asserting that the Internet address involved in the attacks belonged to an official who works in the administration of Russia’s president, Vladimir V. Putin.

In other not so news news, the Bush administration has started a campaign of lowering expectations of the Iraq war as stories are beginning to flourish indicating the U.S. maybe in the process of redefining success. This, on the heels of the president giving a speech last week stating the summer will bring more American deaths as they move forward with the so called surge. This Weekend, Remember The Sacrifices Made On Your Behalf

Question: What do you get when a punk-assed Democrat majority in congress debates a lying-assed Republican minority over a the most important war funding bill vote in American history? You get a war bill only a jackass in the White House will sign.
Enjoy your holiday

As many in the media and the nation awaited the final outcome of the congressional debate and eventual vote on the Iraq war funding bill, it was difficult for this writer to determine what were the most embarrassing moments of the process.

Taking the early lead initially, was Rep. John Boehner, crying like a bitch on the House floor in his apparently successful efforts to convince colleagues to give the president exactly what he’d requested, with no questions, no restrictions and no strings attached. But later in the evening, his performance was easily surpassed by Sen. Joe “The Blowhard” Biden attempting to give the nation a lesson in civics to explain his lame-assed cowardly vote.

Now that these professional bullshit artist and confidence men and women have closed business for the Memorial Day Holiday, they will all go home, have some Bar B.Q., kiss some babies and asses, shake some hands and tell a bunch of lies to their constituents about how hard it is to get anything done in Washington without a clear and overwhelming majority.

The truth of the matter is, the nation got hosed, the nation’s reputation got hosed and most importantly and sadly, the military got hosed. That’s not to say these congressional cumbags didn’t throw us a bone in the form of a hike in the minimum wage, spiking to a lavish lifestyle providing $7.25 an hour, over the next two years; but when you balanced that against the moronic efforts to solve the immigration issue with an incomprehensible comprehensive immigration bill, we can also add the nations working poor to the hosing party.

This weekend is a time for remembering the cool men and women who have sacrificed so much, so we can live our lives in relative safety and security, while congress’ efforts will undoubtedly give us even more of those cool men and women to remember next year. Dislodging Gonzales From The White House’s Good Graces Is Proving To Be As Difficult As Deporting An Illegal Alien

Monica Goodling, a former researcher at the Republican National Committee, served as the department’s liaison with the White House until she ran for legal cover in early April. Testifying under oath with guaranteed immunity she gave the White House more headaches yesterday, accusing Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty of misleading Congress about the eight U.S. attorney dismissals.
Goodling testified that she, herself “crossed the line” by checking out people’s political leanings when giving consideration for career gigs at the justice department. But the damaging remarks came when Goodling disputed McNulty’s assertion that she withheld information from him about the extent of White House involvement in replacing U.S. attorneys before his Feb. 6 Senate Judiciary Committee testimony.
McNulty responded quickly issuing a written statement, that she was wrong “I testified truthfully at the Feb. 6, 2007, hearing based on what I knew at that time,” he said. “Ms. Goodling’s characterization of my testimony is wrong and not supported by the extensive record of documents and testimony already provided to Congress.”

We are going to keep tabs on this story, as the embattled Alberto Gonzales seems to be able to dodge one political landmine after another. The fun in covering this latest fiasco in Washington is seeing that it is going to be as difficult to dislodge Gonzales from the Justice Department as it seems to be to get any of the other 12 million illegal aliens and undesirables deported.
Now, we readily concede Mr. Gonzales probably has full legal status to be in America, however we would still argue that he does qualifies as an undesirable and we know most Washington lawmakers would agree.

In other news, the Chinese is competing with the U.S. in space as they are working deals with third/developing world nations to provide satellite technology, training and monitoring in exchange for access to their reserves of oil. Pissed off because the U.S. was freezing them out of the world’s space club, the Chinese decided to start their own club offering their services to folks like Bangladesh, Indonesia, Iran, Mongolia, Pakistan, Peru and Thailand. And it has organized a satellite association in Asia.

The Jocker: Reviewed And Recommended

Think hobos. Think the depression era. Think personal survival. Think homelessness. Think hopelessness on a national scale. Think of homeless and hopeless men, making their way through life with no more than their wits, ingenuity and each other to keep themselves warm on cold nights.
If you think these things, then you have the very heart and soul of Clint Jefferies’ play, The Jocker.

Part of the Wings Theatre’s Gay Play Series, The Jocker is a riveting tale of traveling tramps struggling to endure a life of uncertainty and loneliness with only the friendships of others sharing the same experience to lean on in a time of continual hardship.

Told from a point of view that most depression era tales neglect to shine the light of day upon, The Jocker spotlights the seedy elements among the seedy elements of life where the big fish manage, control, manipulate and exploit the little fish. Jocker, I thought was the definition of a man taking a younger man/boy under his wing to protect, school in the ways of the world, and teach how to stay alive during a time of dog eat dog. The only problem is, there is a price that young man/boy has to pay his sometimes less than altruistic benefactor. However, being straight, I got this wrong. Click here for another possible definition.

Mr. Jefferies’ story allows his audience to see how people of vastly opposite backgrounds can find ways to bond under the most trying of circumstances to create life long friendships and co dependencies through the eyes of a kid on the road with a crooked, fast talking, alpha-hobo male intent on making a fast buck with a gun, while using his youthful companion for his basic creature needs and comforts.

As if the aforementioned were not enough, this saga is well balanced and supported by two more tragic road relationships, one long term, another budding, struggling to make it in this harsh and unforgiving existence with ethics, moral fortitude and a strong sense of loyalty.

Mr. Jefferies’ new drama captures the very core of the human condition and lays it bare, imaginatively, figuratively and literally while shocking his viewers with the real world of the faceless poor in an era, that hopefully will never return.

I thoroughly enjoyed this fresh perspective of a period in American history that has gone under told and sold. Mr. Jefferies offers a piece of work that adds another dimension to a slice of life, which proved to be ripe for this edgy writer’s exploration.

Democrats Crack Under Pressure When Push Comes To Shove

Nancy ‘The P Word” Pelosi and her crew of cronies high stepped their way into positions of power and pride in the House and Senate with promises of change, not compromise, with more ethics and less politics, caved in, bent over, folded, blinked and flinched when push came to shove over the funding for the war. Granting every wish the president wanted with little if any strings or restraints, the Democratic leadership is giving the president a bill without timelines, albeit with weak-kneed, consequence free benchmarks.

Taking the gamble that the war will continue to go badly, this four months of funding to keep the so called surge going throughout the summer while the American people and the Iraqi parliament vacation, should keep the president fully responsible for the war’s status quo.

Considering nine more soldiers were reported killed in the last 48 hours, added to the 15 killed this weekend past, this might prove to be an election winning strategy for those who have the stomach for playing politics with the lives of our troops. In the short term, Pelosi and Reid make think it necessary to withstand the heat of their base support for their acquiescence to the president veto powers in hopes of selling this bilge as their only sensible recourse in light of their insufficient numbers to do anything more. We Disagree!

In other news, The NYPD is facing another controversial shooting incident where someone is again killed by an officer’s bullets with strong suspicions that proper police procedures may have not been followed. With recent stories surfacing that the city is having a hard time filling recruitment goals due to a woefully inadequate starting salary offered to newbie cops, we may be simply getting the level of law enforcement we are paying for.
