RetroVision Media’s Early Pick For President Based On The Choices We Currently Have Thus Far

While last night’s debate among the Democratic candidates for president had no clear winners or losers, there were significant differences displayed between the rivals that finally gave the voters something new to ponder for the next few news cycles. The mainstream media had been clamoring for Barack Obama to come out swinging at Hillary Clinton in order to generate easy copy for their columns, as well as witty comments for their radio and cable TV shows today.

Fortunately for Obama’s sake, despite his campaign advisors statements that Barack would take the gloves off and get down and dirty to regenerate interest and vigor in his efforts, he maintained a calm cool that an experienced boxer exhibits when he finds himself being backed into the ropes. He smartly rolled with the rather light weight punches thrown at his so called inexperience as opposed to the flailing of John Edwards, he like an accomplished practitioner of jujitsu used his opponent’s weight of attack against them to deflect their blows. Then, and only then did he did he respond effectively on issues Senator Clinton had difficulty explaining and or defending.

Case in point; when the issue of experience continued to be put forth by the older tiered candidates, a dig most utilized by Hillary, to accentuate her vast 35 years in public service and the fact that she was in the White House for eight years providing advise to Bill on issues of global concern, the question was eventually raised regarding the lid Bill Clinton placed on access to his library that would disallow scrutiny of some of said advise. Senator Clinton was clearly exposed here, having difficulty coming up with a straightforward answer that did not appear shallow and contrived. That was when Senator Obama made his move. Making a strong and decisive argument of full disclosure and openness in government is what this country has lacked for too long, it left the impression that a vote for Hillary Clinton was not a vote of change but a vote for more of the same; secrecy leads to lack of accountability. Obama got support from the others when they too seized the opportunity to tag Hillary with the lack of transparency label.

I don’t want to leave the impression that Hillary was the target of the night, but it was clear the attempt was being made to depict her as part of the establishment problem and not a the breath of fresh air that Senator Obama is trying to convey. Another noteworthy moment occurred when Chris Dodd nailed Senator Clinton on the extremely divisive question of whether or not illegal/undocumented aliens/workers should get drivers licenses in New York and beyond. This again left her exposed to criticism from the anti immigration/anti any form of amnesty crowd.

With the exception of Senator Joe Biden’s comments on Pakistan being the real nuclear threat in the Mid-East and not the Iranians, as the Pakistani Government is in a state of flux with no predictable out come in their current election process, they was little else worth noting, save for Denise Kucinich’s admission that he “twart he saw a puddy cat” flying over his house. RetroVision Media’s Issue Under Fire: The Retarded/Short Bus Riding Politicians Are Killing This Country

As the Democrats gear up for what has to be the performance of their political lives tonight, if they want a chance to gain ground on their rivals, or in Mistress Hillary’s case, not loose any, the viewing public should be careful not to be swayed by bold statements, slick lines or witty comebacks. Additionally, they should not allow themselves to be influenced by useless mass media after debate analysis or next day spin masters telling them not to believe their own ears but rely on an updated prepared statement.

If you approach these debates or any sound bite related thereto, without adhering to the above warnings, it is very possible we will elect another stooge to run the White House and all the negative ramifications that will bring. To date, both sides of the aisle of this government have made one gaff, mistake, and grandiose faux pa after another, each topping the other in degree of stupidity.

From Nancy Pelosi’s asinine and ill timed Ottoman Empire genocide resolution efforts that pissed off the Turks; our last reliable ally in the region, save for Israel, to FEMA’s idiotic phony ass press conference, to New York’s Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s poorly thought out plan to issue drivers licenses to undocumented aliens; a plan he further complicated by hooking up with Homeland Security stooge Michael Chertoff, offering a ridiculous three tier system, to the latest unconscionably retarded/short bus thinking move on the part of the State Department to offer immunity to Blackwater USA military contractors, prior to the completion of the investigation.

This month has raised the specter of a bunch of dummies running this country without the slightest clue of what they are doing and how what they are doing is having a devastating effect on the nation’s reputation around the world.

With this latest idiocy perpetrated by the State Dept investigators giving Blackwater employees a get out of jail card before they are even charged with anything sends the message to the world that no matter what an American military representative does abroad to civilians of another nation during wartime, there will be little repercussions if any to face. One would think, after Abu Graib, Fallujah Haditha and Guantanamo Bay the nation’s leadership would at least begin to recognize that all eyes are upon us and watching to see how we handle this latest scandal.

Unfortunately it appears the current leadership either don’t understand the basic concept that image and perception are all important in this age of information technology and the speed with which it travels, making it imperative that one has to always stay in front of and atop every story positive or negative, while ready to respond openly honestly and competently or they just don’t give a shit anymore.

Perhaps the nations is finally feeling the effects of graduating generation after generation of knuckleheads and those knuckleheads have found their way into public service. If that is the case, then we have already sealed our fates. However, if we are being too pessimistic and there is a glimmer of hope to save what is left of a once fairly cool country, then this election had better be won by the smartest, wisest cleverest and most ethical people we can find; otherwise, Europe is going to be the place to be in ten years or less. RetroVision Media’s Issue Under Fire: Hey Eliot; They Don’t Need No Stinking Drivers License

Angry demonstrators chanted slogans of disapproval in front of Gov. Spitzer’s Manhattan crib yesterday; pissed off over his compromise with Homeland Security egghead Michael Chertoff on his proposed NY State driver’s license plan.

Initially, Gov. Spitzer promised local immigrant groups and their supporters that he would seek to get them an unfettered license to drive in this state to help identify and monitor the activities of non-documented workers who have established roots in the area. Since his deal with the Homeland Security Secretary, the immigrant feel that promise has been broken as this new proposal will provide for a three tier system.

The first tier will be the “platinum” version, whereby it would be considered as good as a passport and would allow one to use it as sufficient Identification for anything. The second tier would allow one to drive a car, cross the Canadian border and board a plane. These two plans would be made available only to citizens and legal immigrants, with proof of identity. The third tier version would be available to anybody that walked thought the doors of the DMV Legal or not. This is the license that would only acknowledge that the holder is able to drive a car.

Immigrants groups are fuming over Gov. Spitzer’s deal in Washington this weekend, as they feel they were robbed for their support then got stabbed in the back with this second class citizen type documentation. As city councilman John Liu put it, “This is a new segregation in New York and illegal immigrants will be offered a license that’s akin to a scarlet letter”.

The Gov. is facing serious heat from all sides of the issue, as Republicans are not only fighting him hard with every and anything they can to derail his efforts with but are also planning to file suit this week. Even allies like Bill Perkins (D-Harlem) is coming up lame as temperatures rise.

Our issue with Gov. Spitzer’s problem is the fact that he made the pre-campaign promise in the first place. From the onset this plan to license everybody, legal or no, seems poorly conceived. If one is granted a drivers license without proper proof of citizenship then that license could be used to vote with, as the Board of elections does not ask for proof of citizenship before one cast one’s vote.

Secondly, when one gets a license, the next thing is the purchasing of a car. How is the car going to be insured without a social security number required by the insurance company? All insurance companies that we checked with offering auto coverage online won’t even allow the completion of the online application without a valid social security number. Many insurers require a social security number in order to run a credit check to help determine the level of risk the applicant represents.

There are far too many problems to list in five hundred words or less with Gov. Spitzer’s plan, so we will close with this; campaign promises, no matter how well intentioned are better off not made unless a complete vetting of the consequences of honoring those promises are fully understood. Gov. Spitzer will look as bad on this issue as Nancy Pelosi does on the Armenian genocide at the hands of the Ottoman Emipre issue that the Turks are up in arms over.

We are looking for wisdom, character and leadership and in that order, in American now, as nothing else will do. The question many Americans are asking themselves lately is; are we still capable of fielding a team that can govern with wisdom, character and strong leadership. More in the podcast. RetroVision Media’s Issue Under Fire: Rudolph Jewliani Says Stay The Course And Steady As She Goes W/ Hard line Mid-East Policy

Rudolph W. Giuliani may have inadvertently revealed his Halloween image of megalomaniac early this year when we found out whom is making up his team of advisors on foreign policy.

With the likes of Norman Podhoretz, an ultra neoconservative who, if asked when should America bomb Iran; without doubt, his answer would be, yesterday. Another, “ lets kick some Arab/Muslim ass” kind of guy, Daniel Pipes, the director of the Middle East Forum, has openly called for profiling Muslims everywhere, even eyeballing American Muslims in law enforcement, the military and the diplomatic corps. Once you throw in Michael Rubin, a scholar at the American Enterprise Institute who says the United States should revoke the current ban on assassination, you got a crew that is prepared to take on the entire globe.

Making speeches in front of Christian and Republican Jewish groups, Giuliani continue to root for the war in Iraq and states we need to build up the military by adding a minimum of 10 combat brigades to the Army. Mr. Giuliani says weakness invites attack; and that is music to the ears of defense contractors, neocons and the far religious right.

Playing the never give an inch card for an ever-increasing hard line, heavily moneyed, rightwing audience he must satisfy to offset the losses he’ll suffer for being caught on the wrong side of the gun control, gay marriage, choice-vs.-pro-life issues, Giuliani’s strategy is to fly with the hawks threatening to bomb the hell out of anybody we even think might be disagreeable.

When asked if he thought he could be considered an evenhanded broker when it came to Israeli- Palestinian issues, he answered “America shouldn’t be evenhanded in dealing with the difference between an elected democracy that’s a government ruled by law, and a group of terrorists,” he said. “I think that was part of the mistake of the 1990s that led to the debacle that we saw in the Middle East in the way Clinton was handling it.”

Additionally, his thoughts on negotiating with our enemies were disturbing to us, considering the rest of the world have been talking more as we talk less. At a meeting with the Jewish Coalition, Giuliani stated; “This is the great fallacy in this now very strong Democratic desire to negotiate, negotiate, negotiate and negotiate,” he said. “You’ve got to know with whom to negotiate and with whom you should not negotiate.”

If the old adage of, birds of a feather flock together is even remotely true, then the current mid east policies that have maintained a status quo of occupation, insurgent attacks unyielding turmoil, hate, Palestinian ghettos, replete with food and water shortages and non-existent hope of self determination, as well as a general disdain held by virtually the entire Arab/Muslim world and beyond, is the policies Giuliani intends to keep firmly in place for America’s short term and long term future. Now that is some scary shit!

"I’ve been drunk for three weeks and I have a gun": Reviewed and Recommended

“I’ve been drunk for three weeks and I have a gun” is the title, Jim Farmer is the author/director and in this writer’s opinion, Leslie Lyles is the star of this hilarious piece of mad capped film noir styled farcical comedy currently splitting guts at the Altered Stages Theatre, 212 West 29th Street between 7th and 8th avenues in Manhattan. See you next week!

Not so fast buddies and booties, while this show does beg for a short, crisp, to the point review like its over the top, quick delivery of cockeyed convoluted and conflated dialog designed to confuse an audience just enough to keep them wondering if they should have brought a dictionary for the experience, we would be shirking our duties not to give you the details of this comedic event that should be witnessed by all who’s capable of running, walking, rolling or crawling to the theater.

A clever work that tells the familiar tale of the young starlet wannabe making her way to tinsel town from small town USA to get her fifteen minutes of fame, ending up beat up, drugged up and fuck up by a cocaine dealing thug with a grudge against the world. Our heroine has a looser boy friend following her to the big time only to find himself selling dope to make ends meet until he makes his way on to the police department, giving him the resources to continue his search for his long lost love. By the by, did we forget to mention our devoted lover boy hooks up with a delectable hooker to ease his pain during the search?

Sounding improbable, unbelievable, insanely unlikely and bizarre? Well it may be all those things as well as wickedly witty when you see the performance of Leslie Lyles in the role of Clair Puchavadulas, the over sexed and under appreciated lustfully lascivious wife of a Hollywood doctor/drug dealer to the stars, energetically casting her spell on the script, giving the program that extra oomph sometimes missing from lesser works.

If you want to see some great theater for a great ticket price this week, this is a must see production.

RetroVision Media’s Issues Under Fire: The Feds To The Rescue? Or Katrina Al Over Again

California enters its fourth day with a hope and a prayer that Mother Nature will cooperate and let the high winds die down long enough for firefighting efforts to gain control of the multi county raging blaze. As officials reports up to one million people have been evacuated and more than sixteen hundred structures have been destroyed, many residential homes, the president has declared southern California a federal disaster area and plans to visit on Thursday.

It remains to be seen if federal help will be sufficient since many of the firefighting efforts have been hampered by a lack of resources and manpower since much of the National Guard’s materials, supplies, equipment and people have been shipped abroad to support the war effort in Iraq.

Another of the many unintended consequences of pursuing the ill advised Iraq conflict, this catastrophe by fire is this years Katrina event that will undoubtedly test the resourcefulness of an administration desperate to get it right this time, with the whole nation/world is watching.

With local residents forced to take refuge at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego while they await their fates, things are shaping up eerily like the poor souls in New Orleans when thousands of them crammed into the Superdome only to find deplorable conditions quickly develop with little help, services or security to assist them.

Here is a classic example of the drain the Iraq war endeavor has caused this country to endure, while the president insist on getting another $190 billion to continue the military engagement for another 8-10 months. And there is no reason to believe that congress will do anything other than bend over and give it to him.

The prevailing problem is however, not only is it apparent this nation can not afford to continue spending money on the war at this rate and still be able to meet the basic needs of the people, but much of the money being spent is not being managed properly, as the State Department has been accused of letting military contractors run amuck with cost overruns while providing substandard service.

According to the New York Times, a vast majority of the money goes to companies like DynCorp International and Blackwater USA to protect diplomats overseas, train foreign police forces and assist in drug eradication programs. Records show, there are only 17 contract compliance officers at the State Department’s management bureau charged with overseeing spending of the billions of dollars on these programs. It appears there is going to be a lot of new millionaires when or if this conflict ever ends.

We don’t want to politicize the tragedy southern California is going through now, but it does little good not to point out our short comings, shortages, and major deficiencies while the issues are hot. If we wait until things cool off, people will allow themselves to be lulled into a false sense of security thinking this government is capable of responding ably and competently when the nation needs it the most.

Today’s podcast covers much more, including a review of “I’ve been drunk for three weeks and I have a gun” as well as the road rage incident in NYC resulting in the death of a motorist at the hands of an off duty NYC Police officer.

RetroVisionMedia’s Issues Under Fire: It Is Getting Hot In Here

With southern California ablaze, forcing the evacuation of a quarter of a million people after the of charring at least 267,000 acres and still going; and the latest reports that the Great Lakes have lowered as much as seven inches, we realize even more so, that climate change is and should remain our issue under fire. Thus far, leading scientist say these abnormally drying events are directly attributable to the changes in the planet’s climate. That is why we feel it is imperative that we can get assurances from the 08 presidential hopefuls that they have sensible, rational and verifiable proposals for addressing the global warming problem.

Yesterday, we said we would investigate each candidate’s position on the climate change issue; not by what they say on the campaign trail and in these stupid dog and pony show debates, but what they have committed to in writing at their websites. Once they upload a position on the web, it can be saved for later review by the public to determine whether they have backslid. The topic of climate change is a hot one to say the least, as it can force a candidate to take a stand against potential contributors in order to honor the promises made to the voters, instead of the usual status quo, where the process is the other way around.

As we mentioned in yesterday’s posting, Hillary Clinton’s statement and or promises to deal with the issue was rather bland, brief and lacked details. While on the other hand, Barack Obama’s statement and proposed solutions was rather extensive, well thought through and seemingly manageable. Whether or not he is able to get the buy in from those that need convincing, (China/India) is a story for another day; we are only concerned at this juncture about the extent of the plans the candidates are willing to commit to in writing thus far.

In our opinion, verbal statements during debates and off the cuff remarks made on Sunday talk shows can and often are, later spun by campaign spin masters.
Today we offer links to two Republican presidential wannabes;
John McCain and Mitt Romney. Review these links carefully, listen to our show and determine if any of these candidate in the race has the gumption to properly prioritize and deal effectively with this issues both nationally and internationally. Click here to download.

RetrVision Media’s Issues Under Fire Looks at the front runners posted solutions to Global Warming

In continuing our efforts to enlighten our audience to the many issues confronting this nation as the 08 election creeps ever so slowly but steadily nearer, we thought we’d take a serious look at the how the so called front runners plan on handling the global warming problem facing American and the world. Starting with the Democrats today, Hillary and Barack get the first bit of scrutiny.
After visiting their respective websites, Hillary Clinton appears to have glossed over the issue compared to Barack Obama as his website has devoted far more copy to the problem than that of Hillary’s. His site is far more specific as to what he would do to combat the problem, spelling his plans out in great detail; so much so that we got tire of reading it. That is not a slight against Mr. Obama; quite to the contrary, it is a compliment as this inconvenient truth is boring subject matter to engage and it is that exact reason the planet is in the fix it is in right now.
The global warming issue is going to take people like Al Gore and his egghead friends to keep pounding the world over the noggin until we take the situation seriously enough to make the needed changes before it is too late.

While watching the western states suffer major droughts, the current fires in California, the battles presidential candidate Gov. Bill Richardson is in with the states of Wisconsin, Michigan and other mid-west stated that circle the Great Lakes over getting some of theirs, along with the fight Georgia is in with Florida over their forced water contributions, it don’t take a genius to realize, water not oil may be what America is going to war over next.

After seeing how little detail Hillary’s people elected to delve into and state clearly, in writing what their plans will be, we can only surmise they are taking the corporate wait and see approach, or worse, just say as little as possible in order not to offend future campaign contributors.

Like most Americans, the Democrat and Republican debates are getting more and more tedious to endure despite recent efforts to be cute and entertaining while they go after each other on topics they want us to think is important. But the fact of this particular matter is, the debates thus far has not focused sharply enough on global warming, as we think this issue may be the hot potato none of the candidates want to get pinned down on.

Over the next few days we will start looking at all the candidates’ positions on this planetary problem to see how far out on a limb each is willing to go as well as who is going to show real leadership, guts, wisdom and the ability to work with China, India and anybody else that may still place short term business gains above the need for a greener earth. Issue Under Fire: Mukasey; To Torture Or Not To Torture, That Is The Question

To torture or not to torture that is the question; whether it is nobler to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune or the take up arms against a sea of Arabs and Muslim extremist and beat the living shit out of them. That was clearly the dilemma Michael B. Mukasey wrestled with as he tortured Pat Leahy and other Democrats trying desperately to drag a straight answer from the purposefully vague and evasive Attorney General wannabe.
Mukasey, president Bush’s pick to fill the vacuum left at the Justice Dept. by the disgraced flunky Alberto Gonzales, fought valiantly to fend off an agitated group of irritated inquisitors, doing all they could to ensure they did not let a yes man slip through the process and end up serving at the whim of the president and not the nation.

At times, the hearing was reminiscent of the Gonzales bitch slapping sessions, being every bit as trying and contentious, as he too tried to weasel out of giving clear cut and definitive answers using legalese as his weapon of choice.

Whether Mukasey is confirmed our not, it is without question, the president has an unlimited supply of slippery and slimy scumbags up his sleeves to nominate for positions of import. Thus far, whoever seems to be brought up to the hill for consideration of anything they all to a person seem to lack the ethics and integrity the American people need and deserve. God helps us all. Today’s feature films scheduled for your viewing pleasure is Hollywood Man. This flick runs 107 min and is rated R.
