RetroVision Media’s Issue Under Fire: The Cost of Rudy’s Booty Calls To The Hamptons

Apparently the price of a booty call or a quickie run to the Hamptons cost the city of New York a small fortune and maybe the White House for former mayor Rudy Giuliani. Politico.com is reporting that the mayor may have also muddied the cost of his tryst travels to cover his tracks, by charging his trips to his Hampton honey, now his current wife, to other city agencies.
If character is as an important a trait for the next president we think the country is looking for this time around, then “Rudy the Booty call boy” is going to have a lot of explaining to do.
While we were avoiding at all cost, going down to the cheating spouse road and leaving personal lives out of the political mix, this recent revelation of the former mayor cheating the city out of taxpayer dough for his secret rendezvous, forces us to look at and examine the mayor’s conduct and character with more depth.
If the mayor is going to explain this most recent issue of “travel-gate” as just another mistake in judgement then we think he has finally made one mistake too many.

After the firefighters blamed the mayor for not making the city safer after the 1993 Tower attacks by failing to get the proper radio equipment for the FDNY and the NYPD to use for communications and the stories that the mayor failed to place the cities command center in Brooklyn instead of the Towers, not to mention the Bernard Kerik fiasco, this mayor has far too many flaws to accept as a leader of the nation.

The mayor’s people will probably try to dismiss the Politico.com story as a lot of smoke and no fire, but it is getting to the point that the voting public and taxpayer need not wait for the fire, we are choking to death on the damn smoke.

Issue Under Fire: Republican Debate Handled Immigration heat, But Little To Say on Hot Mid-East Issues

The likable Mike Huckabee was the clear winner in the CNN You Tube debate last night as he was able to stay above the fray and verbal melee that consumed Romney and Giuliani throughout the evening. With a sense of calm resolve stability and the injection of humor, Huckabee took on all challenger attacks without appearing to be on the defensive or aggressive in his responses.
When Fred Thompson tried to unnerve the Arkansas governor over taxes, he explained his record, offered a plausible plan for the future of taxation in the nation, while refusing to fall prey to the no new tax trap pledge served up by one of the You Tube questioners.

The clear looser was former mayor Rudy Giuliani as he fell short, way short when trying to explain his record on immigration and gun control issues. Taking the fight to Romney on a personal level, stating that the former Mass. Governor has allow his own home to be a sanctuary for illegal workers by employing them for contract jobs on his mansion, he inadvertently open the door to well founded criticism of the city of New York. Romney fired back indicating Giuliani lead the charge in fighting to keep the big apple a sanctuary city.

Since it is apparent that immigration is going to be the primary issue of the Republican primary voters, we thought it useful to bring out the fact that New York State is reportedly the host of at least one million-illegal/undocumented workers/people. If the total number of undocumented people/illegal aliens in this country is truly between 12 and 20 million, then New York State without doubt has the lion’s share of the problem.

How could the aforementioned be, since prior to the election of Eliot Spitzer, Republican Gov. George Pataki ran the show? If we were to believe the current crop of presidential candidates, both Republican and Democrat, they would have us all believe the problem should be laid at the feet of the federal government.

While that argument may have a kernel of truth, it is far more likely every one of them have looked the other way, allowed themselves to be compromised and corrupted by big and small business alike, and took the lazy, less combative, pragmatic approach. The miserably failed attempt to give the undocumented drivers licenses in New York State and elsewhere is all the proof one needs to establish the true intent of representatives from both parties. They have sided with the business community in the name of profit and need for cheap labor at the expense of the American worker.

When former Gov. Romney tried to defend against the Giuliani sanctuary attack with his analogy of the unreasonable expectation that a homeowner check to ensure his /her contractors are employing only fully documented workers, it made sense on the surface. But upon further thought, where that might be an unreasonable expectation for the average citizen, the Gov. of a state duly charged with enforcing the laws of said state, would and should be held to a higher standard.

As per usual, the front runners dominated the evening and those bringing up the rear stayed there. Guys like Ron Paul, Duncan Hunter, Tom Tancredo and to a lesser degree John McCain failed to make much of an impression. Click here to download or on air to stream

By the way, did we forget to mention how this debate was devoid of any discussion of the Israeli Palestinian issue? Well we did not forget to mention it in today’s podcast! Check it out…

Broadway May Be Dark Due To The Strike, But We Still Got Your Back For Stuff To Do!

Theaters are still dark on Broadway as the stagehands continue their strike against the producers. We are in effect honoring the plight of the union by holding off on offering options. But it is Black Box Theater Wednesday and we have to break our loyal audience off a little something’ something’ to keep their weekends exciting.
We checked out three great flicks on the silver screen and are recommending Beowulf as a real possibility for then whole family to see. A fantasy, fairytale with lots of action, monsters, sexy vixens and good versus evil stuff that will meet all your expectations for a solid well made Hollywood winter season outing.

Next up is Hitman, starring Timothy Olyphant, an all action flick about a bunch of throwaway kids being trained in the art of death and destruction them turned loose on the world as hitmen for hire. This one the guys will really love as the cool hit guy image is maintained in spite of the luscious leading lass tempting him at every turn. And no, he is not a sissy/ girlie guy. Great non-stop karate action too.

Lastly, The Mist by Stephen King is my best pick of the litter.
If you have not read the book, it all about a small town being caught in an ungodly mist that hides demon like monsters that are the result of military experiments conducted by the government. The ending is what makes this movie standout from the rest. In Stephen King fashion, there is plenty of blood and even more chills.

We hope the strike will be over soon, but if not, we shall return next week with another bundle of Hollywood’s best on the silver screen reviewed for your review.

Issues Under Fire: Lott Leaves The Senate To Mine Lobby Gold

Republican lawmakers have seen the writing on the wall and are jumping ship like rat bastards to avoid the inevitable bitch-slapping coming in 08. Helmet headed Trent Lott is the latest to join the run for the hills crew announcing his retirement from the senate in January.

Making a brief comeback to resurrect his career, name and lobbying future from the gutter after the Bush administration and Republicans threw him overboard over his racist remarks at a Klan like birthday celebration for Strom Thurman, apparently good old boy Trent has bailed just in time to qualify to get in on the lucrative lobbying industry in Washington before the rules change.

With a smooth line and contacts in place, many special interest groups are likely lining up to get their hands on the future former Senator’s rolodex for the purpose of gaining access to the tax payer gold mine. Via earmarks, favors, deregulation and contract hookups, Lott will undoubtedly be one of the best, as he has had over thirty years to build the right links to a corrupt moneyed infrastructure to have himself positioned to rob and pillage with a simple wink of the eye.

No one can say for sure that Senator Lott will act in his own self interest and not the public’s, but if history of American politics is any guide, we think America had better nail down everything she holds dear, be ready to do a finger count after every handshake and keep abreast of every ultra fine printed legalese laden contract that comes in the mail changing the terms of any previous agreements one might’ve signed with financial institutions, cable/satellite companies and cell phone/internet service providers.

When these newly released thieves from the confines of limited congressional thievery begin to descend the national treasure from their high perch of the lobbyist’s; I am entitled to steal to offset my decades of public service mindset, the average tax payer won’t know what hit them.

Unfortunately, with 17 well connected Republican law makers all deciding to start mining for tax payer gold at roughly the same time, and the Democrats so busy reveling in their new overwhelming veto proof, yet still inept congress, the big and usual predictable looser will be the U.S. citizenry.

Don’t let it happen. Think and Vote Smart. Click here to download the podcast

RetroVision Issues Under Fire: Bush/Rice Have as Usual Stacked The Playing Deck Against Real Mid East Peace Negotiations

Many experts, including ourselves, as well as a significant portion of the American citizenry that have been paying attention to the volatile Israeli-Palestinian conflict are viewing the so called Annapolis Peace meeting this week as mere window dressing for an administration desperate to change an almost certain legacy of foreign policy blunderers.

With the Iraq war hung firmly and tightly around the administration’s neck, this latest offensive on mid-east diplomacy is meant to convince the world that the time is finally right to make an effort to bring these two warring parties to the table to broker some kind of deal that will lead to a breakthrough. How any progress at all is to made, let alone any breakthroughs occur while all major players seated at said table (the United States’ Rice/Bush, Israel’s Olmert and Fatah’s Abbas) will be too weak to make any binding commitments or as in the case of the secondary players (Syria, Jordan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia) too disinterested to really care what happens before the Bush administration veto its last bill and are simply showing up out of courtesy, is beyond us.

With regard to the aforementioned Secondary participants, it would be a safe bet to conclude that they are merely playing the game until they see who is going to take the reins of the United States’ Schizophrenic foregein policy efforts in 08. To do anything but placate the out going administration and their last minute grappling to make this half hearted and rather transparent effort at peace making would be foolhardy as they will simply have to renegotiate what ever has been negotiated this go round.

With Hamas, the primary player sitting home and uninvited in Gaza, the point of this meeting seemingly is to shore up support for the Abbas crew who are seen as little more than corrupt capitulating collaborators. Without Hamas at the table, it is difficult to see how any of this glad-handing for the camera will produce anything but more animosity and hatred for the so called process as the core issue that must be discussed will effectively ignored.

The major issue that will be sidestepped is the right of Palestinians to return to their previous homes before their uprooting in the 1940s. This is an absolute non starter, as the Israelis feel, should that happen they will be so overwhelmed by the numbers that their vision of an Israeli state would simply disappear. On the other hand, the Hamas crew,is fighting to keep from go the way of the American Indian as in the United States or the Black South African, before the ruling White Class was dislodged.

With security of the State of Israel being the primary concern of the U.S. government as dictated by a thoroughly infiltrated and pre-paid Congress by Washington lobbyist, all parties concerned, will be forced to wait for a new, honest, uncorrupted administration to emerge in 08 to deal with this world dominating problem. If the same congressional representatives are in place in 08 and beyond, or worse yet, the country fails to elect an administration with an eye for true change, then we can almost guarantee the Middle East will continue to heat up past a point of no return.

That is why it is so important to push the contenders for the White House, both Republican and Democrat to address this issue during the debate process. This one topic alone will give the country a gage by which to determine what foes and how many of them we are going to face moving forward. This topic will give the world a clue of which direction we will be going in the near future and thus what the world should prepare for.

So far, Hillary Clinton and Rudy Giuliani are pretty much on the record for the status quo, as they have most visible acquiesced to the demands of Israeli lobbyist. But the rest of the pack on both sides have remained purposefully murky and or silent on this issue. The smart voters won’t let them remain so. Click here to download the podcast

Issue Under Fire: Annapolis Peace Meet On For 11.27.08: Our Question Is, What Are The Primary Candidate’s Thoughts

I know I know, I was to have the rest of the week off, but a recent development came to light that change all that. The meeting date for the Mid-East peace process summit in Annapolis has been reported to be Tuesday, 11.27.08. We thought it might be helpful to give you a bit of a preview of that meeting and what your reasonable expectations should be for this seemingly last ditch effort of a lame duck administration to engage the usual suspects and culprits in meaningful talks.

From this writers viewpoint, ones expectations should be lowered as low as the 1/8th full, 7/8th empty glass analogy, as the primary entity that is indispensable to completing the proper guest list for the summit, has not been invited.

Unfortunately, invitation or no, Hamas that 800lb invisible gorilla that will be in the room every minute, influencing even the most miniscule of steps towards anything resembling a breakthrough. Without Hamas, having the Syrians, the Jordanians, the Saudis the Egyptians, the Israelis and only half and of the Palestinians represented by Abbas is setting the meeting up for another pre-planned failure that will ultimately lead to Hamas playing their only two cards; the spoiler and terror.

As a result, Hamas will continue the get their support from those in the region that sympathizes with their plight as well as those that have a vested interest to keeping the status quo the status quo. The Israelis, of the hard right ilk will get to hold on to all the land they can for as long as they can. And the Americans can say they tried to do something, anything to get the warring parties to the table.

Why do we think this issue should qualify for our Vote Smart series? Because, to date the candidates for the Democrat and Republican nominations have been allowed a pass on this pressing issue and have only dealt with it from the extreme periphery. Every one of them has confidently expressed a plan to deal with the situations in Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, and Pakistan and to a lesser extent North Korea. But to a person, we have failed to see much coverage of the Democrats or Republicans expressing their concerns and planned policies to address the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

We have continued to state that the conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians and the way the United States have dealt with it, or not has always been at the heart of our problems in that volatile region of the world. That is why we think it unfathomable that the primary process could get this far down the road without making the candidates address this fundamental issue that has caused the United States so much blood, treasure and world standing.

In defense of the candidates, we are not sure if they were even asked by the mainstream press to take a position and or offer a solution on this problem. But, to let this election process continue without forcing an open debate by those that seek to be the leader of this nation, of the most obvious and pressing problem that they will face the first day on the job, is in its very nature, a corruption of that process.

We are sure the candidates would love to avoid this problem at all cost, as they can’t even seem to handle simple questions of whether or not an illegal alien/undocumented worker should get a drivers license. But we, the people, the new press must do the job the contaminated mainstream press can’t or won’t do. And that job is to weed through the BS and challenge those that want to lead so badly, to prove they will have the balls (Hillary notwithstanding), to standup to the lobbyist and put forth an independent strategy to bring the United States to the next Mid-East peace conference ready to deal in good faith.
