The nation lost an important voice for the people’s fight against corporate interest that has waged a brutal war against the American worker in the name of profit and international competition. With John Edwards’ unfortunate exit from the primary race, his populace message of more economic parity via holding the powerful accountable, access to affordable healthcare, education, housing and overall workers rights may be lost in the thinning sauce with the narrowing of the field of presidential hopefuls.
With promises of carrying on the lyrics of his torch song for the downtrodden from both Hillary and Barack, he bowed out of the contest leaving many supporters left only with the hope, that the two remaining Democrats battling for the nomination would keep the light lit for the poor as the fight moves on into the later rounds.
In our opinion, the Obama campaign seems most capable and believable of shouldering that burden as his message to date has been equally targeted to leveling the economic playing field for all Americans sprinkled with dignity and self-respect. While Former Senator Edwards has yet to swing his support to either Clinton or Obama, there has been undercurrents of chitchat indicating Edwards would be a good pick for Attorney General in an Obama administration.
If one can believe the anonymous sources we rely on and respect, John Edwards would make a great Attorney General no matter which Democrat lands the White House. His reputation of taking on corporate America and forcing the powerful to play by the rules will be a breath of fresh air to those in the Justice Department that have dedicated their careers to serving the public’s interest.
With Barack Obama at the helm leading the nation’s reputation back to a place of prominence through intellectual and diplomatic engagement on foreign policy, with a strong emphasis on global economic and ecological concerns while able to appreciate the inseparable nature of the two, one can already begin to see a flicker of light at the end of this eight years of a very dark tunnel.
