RetroVision Media Recommends Plucking Failure Like Ripe Fruit; A Night of Romantic Tragedies

To quote Alfred Lord Tennyson; “Tis better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all,” sets a suitable foundation for a night of heart warming one act plays delving into the tragic and the magic of romance, the human condition, along with the need for affection, companionship and love. Plucking Failures Like Ripe Fruit; A Night of Romantic Tragedies presented by No Tea Productions is a delightful piece of theater, full chock full of comedic tales; complex and not so, that cuts to the core of how people connect, disconnect and sadly never connect.

With as many as ten one act plays on the bill for any given performance, one could see a different show each night as the audience is encouraged to randomly select titles from a jar. Based on the picks, those six-seven plays will be performed that evening. We were lucky enough to enjoy:

1-900 Desperate By Christopher Durang, a really funny story of a night of desperation phone chat replete with a crew of misfits and a five year old that could use some attention.

4 am (Open All Night) by Bob Krakower, (one of my favorites) a cool story of a midnight burger flipper playing match maker to a couple of been there, done that, who’s gonna want me types.

Request Stop by Harold Pinter is another crazy thought providing experience depicting an oddball vagrant making herself bothersome as she baggers her unfortunate targets with not so odd and innocent questions. While this one is funny it is clearly designed to make you think.

Cold by David Mamet, which I must admit, I didn’t get. But sharper minds may have better luck.

Please Have a Seat and Someone Will Be With You Shortly by Garth Wingfield, (another favorite) is about two screwballs awaiting their fifty minutes on the couch with their headshrinkers, chancing a conversation that happily leads to a fantasy affair and back to their sad realities. Despite its ending, it is still a lot of fun.

Breaking Even by Dan Dietz, is a goofy but hilarious short about the world’s luckiest lady hooking up with the world’s lamest loser in Las Vegas, both wanting to end their streaks the hard way.

And finally, Sure Thing by David Ives . Here we have a story of a couple meeting in a café, starting and restarting, while setting and resetting, their first, second and third impressions, over and over again until they finally make a true love connection. Yes, the message here is; there is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow for those willing to chase it endlessly. In our opinion, without question this was most challenging performance of the lot, due to the writer’s style calling for a rapid dialog delivery to achieve a particular dramatic impact.

This is a production we hardily recommend for your Thanksgiving Day weekend activities.

RetriVision Media: Timothy Geithner Treasury Secretary! Kinda Makes Ya Go Hmmmm

We have conflated our programming in today’s podcast as we too would like to spend more time with our families. Another reason is we are not quite sure what to think of Barack Obama’s selection of Timothy Geithner for Treasury Secretary. We know his is a safe bet and a Wall Street darling. We know he is the president of the New York Federal Reserve and we are aware he is a former Treasury undersecretary. And that is exactly what seems to bother us for some reason. We want to do a little more snooping around before going off halfcocked without all of our questions answered about Mr. Geithner. We got a lot of home work to do before we are satisfied this man make sense. Check back here on Monday for more on this.

After the debacle of the Hillary Clinton for Secretary of State charade, we have even far more work to do before we can let go of this transition team story before moving on to the stimulus package to be rolled out of inspection. Again stop by Monday for more.

In the meantime, for those living in the Tri State area, we got a couple of great theatrical performances to recommend for your pleasure.
Radio Theatre’s Dracula and Horse Trade Presents a No Tea Production of Plucking Failures Like Ripe Fruit, (A Night of Romantic Tragedies) A full review of Plucking Failures will be posted tomorrow. Hint, Hint! Its Great

And if all of the above is not enough, we got a great episode of the Hermits Cave attached to the back end of today’s podcast entitled; Vampire’s Desire in tribute to Dan Bianchi’s Radio Theatre
