Issues Under Fire: President Obama Passes His Probationary Period With The People

Mr. President you can rest easy as you have completed your probationary period with excellence. We the people give you high marks for your performance thus far, under these most trying circumstances. Taking over the reigns of a nation teetering on bankruptcy with its number one manufacturing industry (automobile) crumbling before us, we realize this was not easy.

With joblessness increasing by the hundreds of thousands monthly, home foreclosures continuing unabated and a consistently contracting GDP, we know these burdens are difficult to work with. We the people fully understand the $1.3 trillion budget deficit you inherited along with an incompetent and corrupt congress that was responsible for the same. We also know you have had to negotiate tirelessly with the scumbags and scoundrels of Wall Street just to keep the American financial system from drowning in red ink.

Mr. President, we fully understand that you have had to contend with rebuilding the country’s reputation by making the rounds nation by nation, in order to make apologies and amends for your predecessor’s arrogance and ignorance. Unfortunately, it was none other than you who had to swallow America’s pride and admit the wrongs and mistakes of those former leaders to small to do it for themselves. Nevertheless, being the bigger man, you did these things and did them with you head held high with dignity.

Mr. President we the people are also very much aware of the loathsome scum you have had to deal with from the other side of the political spectrum. We know the hardcore Right have clearly meant to do nothing but pray for your failure even at the peril of the nation’s future. Your administration have not only succeeded in getting your budget to invest in America passed, but was able to bring Senator Arlen Specter over to your side in the process. This in and of itself was a major achievement.

Mr. President, with a quiet cool and calm demeanor you have also shown you can work with vastly diverse mindsets while maintaining complete control and a sound perspective. These rare character traits will serve you well in the days ahead as you enter the more difficult stages of your presidency. When you were called upon to confront the recent Somali pirate threat to an American vessel, the outcome was three pirates neutralized with surgical precision, another taken into custody and most importantly no loss of American lives. But moving forward, you decision making skills will come under increased scrutiny when things get nastier in Afghanistan/Pakistan and yes, Iraq as well.

However, all things being considered we think you have done a remarkable job thus far and are delighted to rate your personal grade to date as an A-. In our opinion, the only reason you failed to achieve a grade of A, was due to a slow, sluggish and perceived indecisiveness in the handling of the ever so hot issue of torture. Keep in mind, we were very mindful of the former vice president’s efforts to usurp and or undermine your presidency to save his own fat and heartless ass.

Additionally, we have separated your personal performance from that of you administration to give you the benefit of any doubts. But future evaluations will combine your performance with your crew, as you will be measured by the performance of people you have selected to fill critical positions. Since many of those positions are not fully ramped up, we will refrain from giving them anything but an incomplete.

But fear not, as Secretary of Defense Gates, Secretary of State Clinton, Treasury Secretary Geithner and others seems to be covering their bases without issue. That being said, Secretary of Homeland Security Napolitano and Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, like you will unfairly put to a difficult test too soon due to the Swine Flu pandemic that’s sweeping the nation. They will be called upon to keep the country safe, healthy and well informed. They will have to find a way to deliver healthcare to all who need it under the most trying of conditions, especially when so many Americans have no medial coverage at all.

But once again, we think you can rest assured that Secretary Sebelius and Secretary Napolitano will not let you down, because we estimate them as very smart, strong and capable women with great communication skills. If it is true that a leader is only as good as those who he or she have surrounded themselves with, then your next performance review should be as positive as this one. Issues Under Fire: If Obama Is To Keep The White House Clean He Has To Take Out The Last Bags of Trash

Since the mainstream media is full steam ahead on the Swine Flu pandemic story, we thought it wise to veer wildly back to the Obama administration’s impending decisions to unleash Eric Holder and the Justice Department on former Bush administration officials for war crimes.

We think this is a defining moment for Barack Obama as well as a defining moment for the nation. In the last few decades, this country has had many such moments and thus far we have failed to make the right choices, pick the right candidate, take the right path and most sadly of all, simply do the right thing.

After 911, America was tragically given an opportunity to show strength, courage, resolve, determination and respect for the rule of law in righting the horrible wrong that was committed against it. Instead, the nation allowed itself to be frightened, bullied and intimidated into group think. Even the mainstream media fell into a goose-stepping mindset that gave an excess of power to far too few. The end result was a total repudiation of all the core values the nation stood for by the very individuals proclaiming to preserve.

We allowed the government to open our mail, review our bank balances, listen to our phone calls, as well as letting the “authorities” arrest and hold people without access to legal counsel. As time went by we became aware up things like the CIA’s “extraordinary rendition” programs, replete with secret prisons both domestic and abroad, along with the occasional black bag operations.

When terms like waterboarding, sleep deprivation, extreme stress positions, torture and the Geneva Conventions began to creep into the nation’s dialog regarding our handling of individuals within our care custody and control, we had to know this defining moment was not too far off in the distant future. All sane Americans had to know that somewhere, somehow, we as a nation had lost our way. We had to be aware that this hash tone should not be supported. While it didn’t take long for some to become just as frightened of those who were out to do us harm as by those who were thought to be to keeping us safe; many simply became too numb to care enough.

Maybe this is exactly how lynch mobs are formed and kangaroo courts are held; providing the unfortunate person or persons accused are afforded that luxury. When Fox Broadcasting is pumping out propaganda programming like the 24 (TV series) highlighting the virtues of torture to the masses during a time when the nation is feeling under siege, it not difficult to fathom a mass desensitizing of the public.

But, now that time has passed and we have sobered from the excessive violence, the lies, the misinformation and governmental deception, we can think clearly again. We should be able to see that a criminally flawed government, led by extremely incompetent and criminally flawed leadership, willingly and openly committed atrocities in the name of the so called war against terror.

If President Obama is the same man the country elected and the man the world has come to embrace for his message of change and hope, he will not stand in the way of letting the law take its proper course. The president must advocate a non-politicized, non-partisan independent mechanism be established to thoroughly investigate whomever was privy to, bought into and or signed off on the authorization of these tortuous enhanced interrogation techniques.

Should the president not take this rare opportunity to redefine America by washing the blood from our hands and the hypocrisy from the face of the nation, we will have once again failed a most important test of fortitude and character. By our estimation, this is a president that can go down in history as one who single handedly changing the entire world for the better. On the other hand, he will be remember as the first African American to achieve the highest office in the land. While both potential legacies are major milestones, we must trust President Obama thinks on a grander scale. Click here for the podcast.

Issues Under Fire: Are We Facing A Pandemic With 47 Million Americans Without Healthcare?

As if we didn’t have enough troubles with battling an economy that has already dipped below the recovery stage, with two of the big three auto makers being a heartbeat away from bankruptcy court, the Taliban/Al Qaeda gaining ground in Afghanistan/Pakistan, a reported increase in violence in Iraq, but now it appears America and the world is possibly facing a pandemic of Swine Flu. This unfortunately is at a time when the nation is facing a shortage of doctors. These are more than sufficient reasons why most sane minds would not want to be the leader of the free world.

What is even more concerning is the fact that the president has to find away to protect Americans from widespread infection and treat those who are stricken from this outbreak with a healthcare system incapable of providing care to all who may need treatment. If indeed this Swine Flu (influenza) turns out to be a worst case scenario, with cases reported in California, Texas, New York City as well as others so far, we see a serious problem with containment since so many Americans don’t have access to medial care due to cost.

If one has no job, it is likely they don’t have a healthcare plan. If one has no healthcare plan, it is highly unlikely one would seek medical attention in a timely fashion. If in fact this potentially fatal virus has life saving antiviral drugs (Tamiflu and Relenza) to help stem the spread of the problem, how does those drugs get to the vast majority of those without coverage. Most statistics will support the fact that those without coverage who get sick with symptoms like fevers and respiratory issues just wait it out in the hope that they will recover on their own.

Since the CDC and the World Health Organization can’t say for sure just yet how Swine Flu is transmitted (Pig to Human and then Human to Human) by the time the hoards of the infected and uninsured decide to go the emergency room, they could have infected many others. While President Obama is urging all to chill, stating “the Swine Flu outbreak is a cause for concern and requires a heightened state of alert, it is not a cause for alarm. The European Union’s health commissioner on the other hand is urging Europeans to avoid traveling to the United Stated or Mexico if doing so is not essential.

While we realize this is no time to further politicize the healthcare debate in this country, it does make one wonder if those that have fought so strongly against universal healthcare considered the negative impact of having 47 million Americans running around without adequate healthcare coverage during a widespread pandemic. Did they consider how much at risk they place the rest of the nation by leaving a window of opportunity for any and every bacterial/viral strain to flourish among those who have no way to attain treatment. Then again, maybe this is the perfect time to think about providing some form of healthcare coverage to all Americans. Once again, we just think it is something to think about when the Mexican immigrant looking delivery guy shows up with your food order. Click here for the podcast.
