Since America seems to have difficulty harvesting quality grey matter from recent crops of the nation's youth, we thought we try to recall the type of media people were watching when we did. This episode of Johns Hopkins Science Review entitled The Usefulness of Useless Knowledge gets to the basics of what a university is and what one can expect to find when he or she gets there. Before we send our kids off to the very expensive institutions of higher learning, armed only with shortened attention spans, minds saturated with reality TV and high tech tools they can only operate as toys, we might want to reconsider the investment and make them prove themselves in more affordable community colleges first.
